Month by month
What to do in Santiago in October
Autumn settles in for good: roast chestnuts, golden leaves and the season's first serious rain.

October brings no big festivals or marked feast days, but it does bring autumn settling in for good: chestnuts roasting in the streets of the centre as the month goes on, golden leaves on the Alameda and in the Belvís park, and the season's first serious rain.
It is a month of two faces: the first days can be splendid, almost an Indian summer, and the last frankly wet. It is still a good moment for the Camino, with fewer people than in summer and temperatures around 13-18 °C that let you walk without strain.
Things to do in October
- Magosto and roast chestnuts in the streets of the centre as the month goes on
- Autumn colour on the Alameda and in the Belvís park
- Still a good month for the Camino, with fewer people than summer and mild weather
- Start carrying a proper rain jacket: the autumn rains begin to bite
October is also one of the recommended months to walk the Camino de Santiago: a good balance between weather and how many pilgrims are on the road.
