April hands out sun and rain in roughly equal measure, with spring properly settled in the gardens of the Alameda, Bonaval and Belvís. When the liturgical calendar falls late, the last days of Holy Week are still seen here — in 2026 it closed on 5 April — with processions accompanied by drums, bagpipes and municipal bands; in 2027, by contrast, Holy Week ends on 28 March and April goes without them.

It is also one of the best months to walk the Camino: the French Way starts to fill up, but the temperatures, around 10-15 °C, are far kinder than high summer's, and the Cidade da Cultura and the major monuments can still be visited without high-season queues.

What happens in April

Holy Week (end) (Set by the liturgical calendar (2026: through 5 April; in 2027 it does not reach April)). In 2026 it finished on 5 April, with seventeen processions shared among the city's eleven brotherhoods. In 2027 it closes earlier, on 28 March, so April goes without processions.

Things to do in April

  • See the Holy Week processions if your trip falls early in the month
  • The French Way starts to fill: a good month for the final stretch with less heat than summer
  • The city's gardens and parks — Alameda, Bonaval, Belvís — at their best green
  • Make the most of the Cidade da Cultura with fewer people than in high season

April is also one of the recommended months to walk the Camino de Santiago: a good balance between weather and how many pilgrims are on the road.
