# O Porriño → Redondela

Stage 2 of 6

Around 16 kilometres with the route's first serious climb, up to the chapel of Santiaguiño de Anta, and a long descent into the town of the viaducts.

Sources do not agree on the exact distance of this stage — between 15.2 and 16.4 km depending which guide you consult — but they do agree on the profile: a steady climb of 140-150 metres to the chapel of Santiaguiño de Anta, in the Mos district, followed by a long descent into Redondela. Nothing demanding, but it is the first Portugués stage that stops being completely flat.

## The route, village by village

You leave O Porriño towards Veigadaña (3.5-4 km) and soon reach **A Rúa**, in the Mos district (about 6 km), with a bar, the church of Santa Baia and the Pazo dos Marqueses de Mos as the village landmarks. Then Vilar de Infesta (9-10 km) and, shortly after, the climb starts towards the **chapel of Santiaguiño de Anta** (11-12 km), with bars nearby and a Roman milestone from the Via XIX beside the path — a reminder that this route was already being walked two thousand years ago.

From the chapel the Camino drops steadily to Redondela, crossing the N-550 at several points: watch the traffic at those crossings, especially if you are walking with children or in a group.

## Redondela: the town of the viaducts

Redondela owes its nickname to two **railway viaducts**, both listed monuments, built in 1876 and 1884-86, which cross the town above its main streets. From several points in the centre you can see the **island of San Simón**, in the Vigo estuary: it was a quarantine lazaretto in the 19th century and, from 1936, a Francoist concentration camp, with more than 6,000 prisoners recorded up to 1943. Today it is a site of memory that can be visited by boat from Cesantes or Arcade.

## Where to sleep in Redondela

The **Xunta**hostel, "Casa da Torre", occupies a 16th-century building on Praza de Ribadavia, at the usual 10 € rate and with room for a good twenty pilgrims — sources do not agree on the exact number. Among the private ones: **A Conserveira** (15-17 €), **Santiago de Vilavella** (15-17 €), **A Casa da Herba** (18-21 €) and **A Rotonda** (20 €, open April to October). Guide prices for 2026.
